Il presente volume documenta gli esiti del Laboratorio Estivo Siracusa, un workshop internazionale di progettazione dal titolo “Il Paesaggio dell’archeologia, tre occasioni per fare città”, tenutosi a Siracusa dal 29 settembre al 8 ottobre 2012 e organizzato dalla S.D.S. di Architettura dell’Università degli Studi di Catania. The reflections and the case study which will be proposed, pertaining to a recent design experiment for the archaeological area and Antiquarium of Tyndaris, are dedicated to this theme. Project and mediterranean places in the experience of PhD in Architectural Design This essay analyze, as a whole, the results obtained under the theme of "Mediterranean", from the research carried out for several years in the Ph.D. in Architectural Design of Palermo. Researches have identified elements of originality in an area deeply investigated and that revolves around the themes of landscape, light, construction, mode of settlement. The essay try today to focus some permanences detectable in the researches, revealing some aspect of an attitude recurrent in the paths of the project of architecture in the Mediterranean area.

Pasquale Culotta immaginava un cambiamento, un avanzamento culturale collettivo capace di coinvolgere tutto e ovunque. Voleva cambiare le regole che governano la nostra società e, nel caso specifico, il governo delle città, le baronie universitarie, la professione di architetto, l’editoria di architettura. Per raggiungere questo molteplice obiettivo ha speso la vita, come un eroe “anticlassico” (potremmo dire “irregolare”), con umiltà e determinazione, senza mostrarsi troppo, a volte nascondendosi.
